Family history , my father's side
"Thanks for yours.  I do not recall Granddad Cecil working on the mines.  He worked at Standard Brass for + 45 years and from what I can remember came from the Cape when he was approx 22 years old. He died on 9th September 1963 when he was 66 years and 3 months and 23 days old  (he was born on 17th May 1897) so I do not think he worked at anywhere else.  He was the eldest son and had three brothers, Harry, Percy and Kenneth.  I think they appear on the famiva website already.  I am busy trying to find all the information regarding the Lotter, Beams side but have not been well for a time and so have not managed to do this yet,  Uncle Percy was in the Navy and even visited Russia.  Gerald, one of Uncle Harry’s sons lives in Pietermaritzburg and he would possibly be able to give us some more information.  Charles has seen him on occasions.  I am trying to locate Karl Lotter – your great great grandfather – the father of Charles Henry  Lotter (your paternal great grandfather).  It is interesting to note that Karl is the German name for Charles.  Your Grandfather was Charles Cecil John – the John obviously being after John Llewellyn Beams who was your maternal great grandfather.  One of the sources of information I am trying to obtain fuller history from is Margaret Kruse, who lies in Ottery in the Cape, one of Uncle Harry’s daughters who I correspond with.  She has passed some of it on to her sister but I am drawing up a list of the information I need and will update it when I receive it."
